1:1 SEND TA (2  part time posts) with experience of Autistic Spectrum Disorder

Job Description

To work under the direction and guidance of the SENDco and class teacher, to assist in the educational and social development of the child.


Liaise with the class teacher to understand the objectives of each session.


Assist teacher with observation and monitoring of the progress of the child, both socially and educationally, maintaining accurate records, in order to ensure documentation of all interventions with the children.


Promote positive behaviour patterns, raise self-esteem, and improve independent working with the child to assist their education and growth.


Participate in the implementation of individual education programmes for the pupil as designed by the SENCO

and teaching staff. Duties may include monitoring the progress of the pupil educationally and/or socially.


Work with individual programmes devised by other professionals, e.g. speech therapists, occupational therapists, as necessary.


Tend to the hygiene and physical needs of the individual.


Participate and supervise the pupil in off-site activities.

Personal qualities

  • A demonstrable empathy for their children's needs

  • Patience, understanding, caring, sense of humour.

Knowledge and Understanding

  • An understanding of the varied needs of children as they develop socially and academically.

  • A good grasp of understanding of Numeracy and Literacy

  • Knowledge and understanding of meeting the needs of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Skills and Aptitudes

  • Awareness of confidentiality.

  • Relevant training in ASD

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

  • Able to manage time effectively.

  • Ability to be flexible to the needs of the children.

  • Effective communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
